Engineering Sound at Scale: A Technical Breakdown of Music Run 2026

music run

Music Run 2026 was not only a large-scale public event it was a complex exercise in precision audio engineering, proudly delivered by Doremi Service & Rental Sdn Bhd. The challenge was clear: to design and deploy a sound system capable of maintaining consistent energy, clarity, and coverage across a large scale outdoor running route while ensuring efficiency, control, and reliability from start to finish.

Main Front of House System: d&b audiotechnik KSL Series

At the core of the system was the KSL Series from d&b audiotechnik, forming the main Front of House (FOH) setup. Each side of the system featured a 12-cabinet line array configuration, combining KSL8 and KSL12 modules. This hybrid deployment allowed for optimized vertical coverage where KSL12 provided extended low-frequency response and throw capability, while KSL8 ensured precision in the mid-high frequency range.

This configuration delivered exceptional headroom and long-throw performance, allowing sound to travel efficiently across the event space without sacrificing clarity. The system maintained tight directivity control, reducing unwanted spill and ensuring that audio energy was focused on the audience zones rather than dissipating into surrounding areas.

Low-Frequency Reinforcement: SL-SUB Cardioid Array

Low-frequency reinforcement was handled by an array of 12 SL-SUB units, strategically deployed to provide powerful yet controlled bass response. The cardioid design of the SL-SUB system significantly reduced rearward energy, minimizing noise pollution behind the system while maintaining strong forward impact an essential factor for outdoor events of this scale.

Side Field Coverage: CCL Series Loudspeakers

To ensure consistent horizontal coverage, especially along the outer edges of the running route, side field reinforcement was introduced using CCL Series loudspeakers. Each side field consisted of 2 units of CCL12, supported by 4 CCL-SUB units. Despite their compact form factor, these speakers delivered impressive output and clarity, seamlessly integrating with the main KSL system.

System Amplification: D90 & D40 Amplifiers

Powering the entire system were D90 amplifier and D40 amplifier units, forming the backbone of system amplification and control. The D90 amplifiers provided high output voltage and dynamic headroom required for the KSL and SL-SUB systems, ensuring consistent performance even under demanding conditions. Meanwhile, the D40 amplifiers were utilized for supporting elements such as side fields, offering stable and efficient power distribution with precise DSP control.

The alignment between FOH and side field systems was carefully managed to achieve phase coherence and tonal consistency. This ensured that participants experienced a uniform sound signature regardless of their position within the event space whether directly in front of the main arrays or further out along the sides.

System Design & Prediction: ArrayCalc

System design and prediction were carried out using ArrayCalc. Through detailed modeling, the engineering team was able to simulate coverage patterns, optimize array angles, and predict SPL distribution with high accuracy. This pre-production process significantly reduced uncertainty and enabled efficient deployment on-site.

Live Monitoring & Control: R1 V3

During the event, system control and monitoring were handled R1 V3. This platform allowed engineers to manage amplifier loads, apply real-time EQ adjustments, and monitor system health continuously. The ability to respond dynamically to environmental changes ensured consistent performance throughout the event duration.

Sustainability Through Efficient System Design

From a sustainability perspective, the system design emphasized efficiency. By leveraging the advanced capabilities of modern line array technology, the team was able to achieve wide coverage using fewer components, reducing overall power consumption and logistical demands. This aligns with Doremi’s commitment to delivering high-performance yet environmentally conscious event solutions.

On-Site Execution & Calibration

Execution played a critical role in translating system design into real-world performance. Every element from rigging and alignment to final tuning—was carried out with precision, ensuring that the theoretical model matched actual output conditions. On-ground calibration further refined the system to adapt to environmental variables such as terrain, crowd density, and atmospheric conditions.
